    Vintage matchbook from the famous Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant in Miami Beach, Florida. There are 3 of these matchbooks available, 2 of which have never been used and 1 of which has been lightly used (1 match missing from book).

     

    The front of the matchbook cover features a stone crab illustration, the restaurant's name and phone number as well as the location, on the corner of Biscayne and Washington Streets in the "extreme south end" of Miami Beach, Florida. Inside is a map of Joe's Stone Crab is located in relation to key roads like Collins Avenue and Macarthur Causeway. The back of the cover has the same stone crab illustration and restaurant name but also boasts "the first established eating establishment on Miami Beach."

     

    Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant opened in 1913 - two full years before Miami Beach was incorporated - by Joe Weiss, a Hungarian immigrant, and his wife Jennie. At the time, it was the only place to get breakfast, lunch or dinner on the beach. Joe's was patroned by the likes of Al Capone, Frank Sinatra and a slew of celebrities and other notable figures.
